Linda was born in Queens, NY on Feb 7, 1946 to
Valentin and Regina Hausknecht. She was a graduate
of Dominican Commercial High School in Queens. Linda
received her BA and MA in Education from Hunter
College in New York City.
She met and married Phil Mahler in Germany on April
2, 1971. Together they have three daughters: Erica
(Eric) Meiners, Andrea (Bob) Evers, and Emily Mahler
(Jackie Schneller); and five grandchildren:
Katherine and Zachary Boss, Brenden and Jameson
Evers, and Lucas Schneller-Mahler. All survive.
Linda is also survived by a sister, Josephine
(Ernie) Bintz of Fredericksburg, VA, and her
mother-in-law LaDonna Mahler of Lincoln, IL. |
Linda was always a teacher at heart.
Her early career saw her teaching in Harlem, NY and
then moving to Germany to teach for the DoD. Linda
began teaching at Carroll Catholic School in 1972
after marrying Phil and settling in Lincoln.
Throughout the years she taught almost every grade
level and enjoyed her students immensely. Linda
loved her students and loved being part of providing
quality Catholic education in Logan County. After 20
years of teaching at Carroll, Linda became school
principal until her retirement in 2005. If you had
Mrs. Mahler, then you likely remember making pumpkin
bread, the clean-up song, theatre trips to Chicago,
or singing Keep Christmas With You at the Christmas
program.
In retirement, Linda spent much of her time
traveling the world with Phil, enjoying her
grandkids, and creating picture books of all the
adventures.
Memorials in Linda’s honor may be made to Carroll
Catholic School.
