[October 11, 2022]  ATLANTA - Ruth E. Gordon, 77, of Atlanta, passed away at her home on Friday, September 30, 2022.

Visitation: Monday, October 3, 2022, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Atlanta United Methodist Church

Second Visitation:  Tuesday, October 4, 2022 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the church

Service: Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the church

Funeral home: Quiram Peasley Funeral Home, Atlanta

Obituary

Ruth E. Gordon, 77, of Atlanta, passed away at her home on Friday, September 30, 2022.

Funeral services for Ruth will be held at the Atlanta United Methodist Church on Tuesday, October 4, 2022, at 11:00 a.m.

Visitation will be at the church on Monday, October 3, 2022, from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. and from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service on Tuesday.

Burial will be at Randolph Cemetery at a later date.

Ruth Elizabeth Randolph was born December 5, 1944, in Lincoln, the daughter of Richard R. and Holley Adair Randolph. She was united in marriage to Glenn A. Gordon on Nov. 29, 1963, at the Atlanta United Methodist Church. He survives.

Ruth is also survived by their children: Steven (Heather) Meadows, David (Kristi) Gordon, Dianna Gordon and Suzanne Gordon; eight grandchildren: Stephanie (Ben) Kier, Jessica Gordon, Elise and Carly Gordon; Owen and Jett Laney; Cheyanne (Colin) Caggiano and Ava Hines; two great-grandchildren: Riley and Tristan Kier; and one sister: Laura Sue (Charles) Baue.

Funeral Director

She was preceded in death by her parents, one infant brother, and one sister: Sarah Shipley.

Ruth was a 1962 graduate of Atlanta High School. She then attended Elkhart University where she studied dental nursing. A librarian and teacher at heart, Ruth spent most of her life working with students and children at the ISU Milner Library, the Atlanta Christian Church Pre-School (for 25 years) and the Atlanta Public Library, from which she retired.

She was a lifelong member of the Atlanta United Methodist Church and loving volunteer with the United Methodist Women. Ruth was a charter member of the Simply Tasteful Red Hat chapter with her sister and many lifelong friends. Among her many volunteer endeavors, she is remembered fondly as a Cub Scout leader, Brownie leader, and Sunday School teacher.

Memorials in Ruth’s memory may be made to the Atlanta United Methodist Church, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, or the American Cancer Society.

Final arrangements are entrusted with Quiram-Peasley Funeral Home of Atlanta.
