Reimer was strong when needed -- stopping a Philadelphia push
within the first minute of the game, then halting all 17 shots
he faced in the third period to record his first shutout since
Nov. 28, 2001, at Chicago.
Meanwhile, the Sharks -- who won for just the second time in
eight games this season and split a four-game East Coast trip --
broke through while owning a 12-5 shot advantage during the
second period. Coming into the contest, San Jose, which also got
an empty-netter from Nico Sturm, had been outscored 16-4 in the
second this season.
In his seventh NHL start, Felix Sandstrom made 22 saves for the
Flyers, who won four of their first five contests. Philadelphia,
which totaled 17 goals entering the contest, suffered its first
defeat in three home games.
Blackhawks 5, Kraken 4
Chicago scored twice in 13 seconds in the third period to rally
for its third straight win against visiting Seattle.
Tyler Johnson scored the tying goal with 7:03 remaining with
Jason Dickinson following with the decisive tally. Johnson
scored two goals, and Seth Jones and Patrick Kane each had two
assists for the Blackhawks, who have trailed by two goals in
each of their past three games. Alex Stalock made 30 saves.
Jared McCann had a goal and an assist and Martin Jones made 22
saves for the Kraken.
Red Wings 5, Ducks 1
Dominik Kubalik had a goal and two assists to lead Detroit to a
home win over Anaheim.
Dylan Larkin had a goal and an assist and Ville Husso made 32
saves in goal for Detroit, which scored three power-play goals
on five attempts with the man advantage. For the first time
since 2011, the Red Wings have opened the season without a
regulation loss in their first five games.
Trevor Zegras scored the lone goal of the game and John Gibson
made 36 saves for Anaheim, which went winless on a five-game
road trip against Eastern Conference opponents.
Blue Jackets 5, Rangers 1
Daniil Tarasov made 30 saves for his first NHL victory as
visiting Columbus defeated New York.
Zach Werenski, Andrew Peeke, Yegor Chinakhov, Eric Robinson and
Kent Johnson scored for Columbus. Liam Foudy, Jack Roslovic and
Jakub Voracek each added two assists.
Artemi Panarin scored for the Rangers, who have lost two in a
row. Jaroslav Halak stopped 16 shots for New York.
Panthers 3, Islanders 2
Backup goalie Spencer Knight made 23 saves for his second win in
as many tries this season, leading host Florida to a win over
New York at Sunrise, Fla.
The Panthers, who also beat the Islanders on opening night, got
goals from Anton Lundell, Eetu Luostarinen and Ryan Lomberg.
Anders Lee scored two power-play goals for the Islanders, and
both of them came on rebounds. Mathew Barzal picked up two
assists for New York, which also got 29 saves from backup goalie
Semyon Varlamov.
