Heitzig siblings and Jake Bivin headed to XC State

[October 30, 2022]    It was another spectacular Fall day on Saturday for the 2022 IHSA Class 2A Cross Country Sectionals in Chatham.

Three LCHS runners qualified for the state meet: Becca Heitzig, Brenden Heitzig and Jake Bivin.

Becca Heitzig, a LCHS junior, finished in second place with a time of 17:14.20 in the girls race. Heitzig shaved some time off last week’s race, but a speedy Tatum David from Olney finished in first place with a time of 16:43.50. Hannah Meiser of Bethalto finished in third place with a time of 17:29.70.

Brenden Heitzig, a LCHS senior, finished in second place in the boys race with a time of 15:02.20. Dylan Nalley of Marion was impressive with a first place time of 14:06.30. Jackson Collman of Bethalto finished in third place with a time of 15:07.70. Mount Zion’s Julian Baker finished in fourth place with a time of 15:08.40.

Jake Bivin also qualified for next week’s state meet with a time of 15:50.80. Bivin, a senior at LCHS, finished in 15th place.

With the Lincoln boys team qualifying for the sectionals, here are the results from Saturday for the rest of the Railers:

Lincoln sophomore Jude Toft finished 73rd with a time of 16:48.50.

Ben Crombie, a junior, finished 91st with a time of 17:07.50.

Luke Jones, a junior, finished 106th with a time of 17:32.40.

Nathan Stuckey, a junior, finished in 112th place with a time of 17:43.70.

Senior Wyatt Schumm rounded out the pack with a time of 19:59.90 and a 140th place finish.

Becca Heitzig, Brenden Heitzig and Jake Bivin will each compete on Saturday, November 5, 2022 at the 2022 IHSA Class 2A Cross Country State Finals at Detweiller Park in Peoria.
