Construction is about to begin on the County Highway
12 bridge over the Lake Fork Ditch. The bridge is located one half
mile east of Broadwell on 1010th Street.
The project is scheduled to begin the week of September 12th. The
bridge will be closed to traffic and will remain closed until late
November.
The existing bridge is 155 feet long and was built in 1977. The
bridge was constructed with concrete deck beams. Those beams have
developed structural cracks and need to be replaced.
The bridge deck will be completely removed. Minor repairs will be
made to the concrete piers and riprap will be placed to control
further erosion. New concrete deck beams and new guardrail will be
installed. A new asphalt overlay will be placed over the bridge.

The project was awarded to County Contractors, Inc. located in
Quincy, Illinois. The low bid on the project was $657,571. Logan County will use
federal bridge program funds for 80% of the cost. Local property tax funds will
be used for the remaining 20% local share.
Cooperation and patience is always appreciated during the
construction season as we continue to improve the safety of our roads and
bridges. Status of our local construction projects can be found on the News &
