Obituary

James R. “Rich” McGlocklin, 86, died August 30, 2022 at Lincoln Village Healthcare Center in Lincoln. Rich was born April 5, 1936 in Memphis TX to V.L. and Frances Ogden McGlocklin. His youth was spent living in Texas, California and Oklahoma before settling in Carbondale.

After graduating from SIU Rich made a career in music, serving in schools and churches in Illinois and Tennessee as the band or choral director and pianist. He also owned and operated “The Guitar Man” music studio in Springfield IL giving guitar lessons to many youths. Selling and servicing band instruments to area schools he worked for Ackerman Music Co in Springfield.

In retirement Rich did not shy away from hard work and found happiness in Tennessee working his land and caring for his small organic orchard and learned the skill of beekeeping. Long before the online methods of genealogy he traveled the country to research his roots. Still dabbling in music, he gave his youngest grandchildren weekly piano lessons.

He is survived by his daughter, Kim (Carroll) Richards and his son, Richard D. (Bo-kyoung) McGlocklin, one brother, Charles (Jane) McGlocklin; 4 grandchildren Amy (Clay) Callihan, Brian Stout, Lydia and Christiana McGlocklin; 4 great grandchildren Julia, Kat, Elliott and Lucy Callihan and 2 nephews. His parents and 1 niece preceded him in death.

Living without complaint all the way to the end, Rich lived humbly and served his God in his service to others. He will be missed.

A private family service is planned.
