The freshmen kicked off the night with a 21-15 and 21-12 win in
two sets.
The JV won 25-20 and 25-19.
The Varsity won 25-16 in the first set and then overcame a
late-game deficit to win 26-24 in set two.
The Lady Railers found themselves trailing 22-24 in set two when
freshman Lily Holmes stood at the service line. Holmes never
missed a serve down the stretch and the Lady Railers defense
came up huge with a block in the final minutes. In addition,
Peyton Sasse and Kloe Froebe added kills that devastated the
Green Wave and led the Lady Railers to the 26-24 win.
It was a really terrific win for the Lady Railers, who had been
swept by Mattoon last season in the conference.
The Lady Railers showed their mental toughness in a tense
situation and pulled out the team win in front of a big home
crowd.
Lady Railer coach Emma Derry was very happy with the win over
Mattoon and offered these comments following the game.
“We are making progress,” said Derry. “We are starting to see
our weaknesses and what we need to improve upon. Taryn (Stoltzenburg)
and Becca (Heitzig) have been working hard in the back getting
passes to my setter to be able to move the ball around. Alyssa
(Company) and Peyton (Sasse) showed up tonight and put the ball
away along with Kloe Froebe. I am extremely proud of my girls’
efforts as we had an unfavorable start in the second set, but
they stayed focused and worked together to win.”
Kloe Froebe led Lincoln with 10 kills.
Peyton Sasse added 8 kills.
Lincoln’s Varsity team improved to 3-1 on the season.
The Lady Railers will host the Hampton Inn Varsity Tournament
this weekend, beginning tonight at 5
p.m.
