The Logan County Sheriff's Office has received
information concerning a telephone scam that is currently affecting
Logan County residents.
The scam involved a person, not believed to be local,
making a call claiming to be from the Logan County Sheriff's Office.
The caller claimed that the individual had missed jury duty and a
civil warrant was issued and then requested payment in lieu of
arrest.
Sheriff Mark Landers advised that the Logan County Sheriff's Office
will not make calls to any resident advising of any warrant and will
never ask for payment in lieu of arrest. If there are any concerns
about a call you have received, please follow these guidelines:
• Never give out personal information over the phone to someone you
have not personally
identified
[to top of second column] |
Always ask questions to help identify who you are
talking with and who they work for: business name, phone number so
you can call them back, employee's name for when you call back,
their supervisor's name, etc
If you are unsure, please call us at 217-732-4159 and
speak to someone on duty to help you determine if the call was
legitimate or not. We will come to you and speak with you personally
about your issues if you would like.
