[March 29, 2023]  LINCOLN - Darren Hellman, 57, of Lincoln, passed away from Frontotemporal Degeneration on Wednesday, March 23, 2023, at Copper Creek Cottages.

Visitation:  9 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Monday, March 27, 2023, at Zion Lutheran Church in Lincoln

Service:  11 a.m. Monday at the church

Obituary

Darren Hellman, 57, of Lincoln, passed away from Frontotemporal Degeneration on Wednesday, March 23, 2023, at Copper Creek Cottages.

Darren was born May 12, 1965, in Normal, the son of Donald and Donna (Bartmann) Hellman. He married Katrina Hamlin on May 5, 2009, in LaSalle County.

Darren is survived by his wife, Katrina; children, Joshua Hellman, Nick (Alexa) Galluzzo, and Jack Galluzzo; parents, Donald and Donna; sister, Deanna (John) Baker; nieces, Allison Baker (Ezra), and Cori (Kyle) Shadid; aunts, Jeanne Unzicker, Alberta Hellman, and Loretta Hellman; uncle, Henry Bartman; as well as many, many cousins.

He was preceded in death by grandparents.

Darren was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Lincoln. He was an outdoor enthusiast. Darren loved to bicycle and was considered an avid cyclist, who was a past member of the “Spin Doctors” Bicycle Club. Whenever he could, he also enjoyed rock climbing and kayaking.

Services for Darren will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, March 27, 2023, at Zion Lutheran Church in Lincoln. Visitation will take place two hours prior to the service from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.

Memorials may be made in Darren’s name to The Association for Frontotemporal Degeneration.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Lincoln.
