Gavin Sheets delivered two hits and three RBIs and Luis
Robert Jr. had three hits and an RBI to back five strong innings
from Dylan Cease and help the host Chicago White Sox defeat the San
Francisco Giants 7-3 on Wednesday afternoon.
Yoan Moncada and Andrew Benintendi supported Chicago's 13-hit attack
with two hits apiece. The White Sox, who evened their home-opening
series with the Giants at one game apiece behind a combined
four-hitter, have at least 10 hits in five of their six games this
season.
Cease improved to 1-0 despite struggling with his command. Cease
walked five in five innings but was otherwise sharp, spacing one run
and one hit with eight strikeouts.
J.D. Davis provided the Giants' lone run and hit against Cease,
smacking a solo homer to the opposite field in right with one out in
the second inning.
Trailing 4-1 in the seventh, San Francisco brought the potential
go-ahead run to the plate with two out, but Reynaldo Lopez preserved
the lead by striking out Joc Pederson following a walk to David
Villar.
Bryce Johnson's leadoff single in the inning was the Giants' only
other hit in the game until Wilmer Flores and Pederson doubled in
the ninth. Pederson's hit scored two runs.
The White Sox grabbed an early lead with a two-run first, with
Andrew Vaughn (double) and Sheets (single) collecting consecutive
RBI hits.
Chicago's fifth-inning rally featured second baseman Elvis Andrus'
2,000th career hit. One pitch after umpires stopped the pitch clock
to allow the White Sox to recognize the milestone, Hanser Alberto
delivered an RBI single to score Oscar Colas.

Robert then lined an opposite-field, RBI double to
score Andrus and extend the White Sox lead to 4-1.
Giants right-hander Logan Webb recovered to retire the next two
batters and end the threat. Webb (0-2) scattered four runs and nine
hits in five innings with zero walks and four strikeouts. His ERA
stands at 6.55 through two starts covering 11 innings.
White Sox shortstop Tim Anderson was ejected in the third inning for
arguing with the umpire following a strikeout.
