Open Arms Pastor Larry Crawford said the church has
hosted an Easter Egg hunt for about six or seven years. It is one of
the many ways they reach out to the community.
Early Saturday morning, around 30 volunteers helped “hide” more than
10,000 plastic eggs, scattering them throughout three separate
sections of the former LCU soccer field.
What appeared to be over one hundred children
gathered just outside the field to the left of the chapel excitedly
waiting for the hunt to start.
There were three age groups for children; two-year-olds through
pre-kindergarten, kindergarten through second grade and third
through fifth grade.
One group at a time was released to gather up as many eggs as they
could.

Besides gathering eggs, kids had the chance to visit with the Easter Bunny. The
Easter Bunny made the rounds through each section, visiting with kids and posing
for pictures.
Once the youngsters had gathered all their eggs, they quickly opened them to
find what was inside.
Though most eggs had individual pieces of candy, other eggs had pieces of paper
inside that showed special prizes the barer had won. The young hunters and
gatherers could take those papers to tables near the chapel and redeem them for
the prizes. Open Arms Children’s Pastor Lara O’Donoghue said there were 150
full-sized candy bars and 300 $5-bills given out as prizes. Another prize was a
big Easter basket.
Additionally, one child from each age group won a brand-new
bicycle.
All the kids seemed to have a great time at this year’s Open Arms Easter Egg
Hunt.
