A Celebration of Olan’s Life will be held at The

Olan Ray Turner was born June 1, 1947, in
Middlesborough, Kentucky, the son of Clarence E. and
Ruby C. England Turner. He was united in marriage to
Karen Smith in Jacksonville, IL, on Aug. 10, 1968.
She survives.
Olan is also survived by their children: T.J.
Turner, Traci (Dwayne) Keiffer, and Olan R. Turner,
Jr.; two grandchildren: Kimberly and Jason Keiffer;
and two sisters: Marilyn Winczowski and Brenda
(Greg) Johnson.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Olan graduated from Baptist Bible College of
Springfield, MO, in 1968, where he met his wife,
Karen. Together, Olan and Karen ministered in
churches in Indiana, Kentucky, and Illinois. Olan
was the founding pastor for the Bible Baptist Church
in Havana, IL (now Grace Baptist Church) and also
served in San Jose at the First Baptist Church.

Later, Olan worked for Logan
Correctional Center as a food supervisor, the
Weyerhaeuser Company box factory in Lincoln, and as
a part-time security guard. Olan and Karen were also
long-time Lincoln Courier and Bloomington Pantagraph
carriers.
Olan was a skilled guitarist who also
enjoyed collecting recorded music, especially
traditional country and bluegrass by Johnny Cash,
John Denver, and Doc Watson. And he was a long-time
fan of the New York Yankees, Kentucky Wildcats, and
Tennessee Volunteers. Always one for a good bargain,
Olan took pride in his thrifting and garage sale
finds.
