[April 10, 2023]
The
Central Illinois Veterans Commission (CIVC) is now taking
applications for consideration in the awarding of two new small
homes in Lincoln, Illinois. These homes will be built on property on
Decatur Street which was donated by Paul and Jackie Campbell of
Lincoln. A groundbreaking for the homes that will be gifted to two
veterans is being planned for early May.
Eligible veterans, or those that want to nominate veterans for this
opportunity, can find the application and further information at
https://www.civeteran.org/ or contact CIVC at 217-828-9366. To be
eligible to receive a mortgage-free home through this program, one
must be a veteran who has been honorably or generally discharged,
not currently own a home, and have the means to pay the other
expenses associated with home ownership. Applicants do not have to
reside in Lincoln currently. Applications should be filed by April
30, 2023.

Volunteers will also be needed as
the construction on these new homes begins. The opportunity to
volunteer will be announced as dates for the build are
solidified. For more information on volunteering or contributing
to this effort, contact CIVC using the information above.
Founded in December of 2018, it is the vision of the Central
Illinois Veterans Commission to provide veterans with tools and
support systems to eliminate barriers in obtaining permanent
housing. To date, three homes have been completed and awarded to
deserving veterans.
