Lincoln improves to 8-6 on the season

Since the last update on LDN the Lincoln Railsplitters baseball team added six wins in the month of April so far, bringing their season record to 8-6.

Monday, April 3, 2023

The Railsplitters defeated Peoria Notre Dame 9-2 to start the month.

A sacrifice fly by Jaden Leadley in the first inning gave Lincoln a 1-0 lead over the Irish.

The Railsplitters added five runs in the third inning, with Leadley adding an RBI double and Brenden Wurth slugging an RBI single. Wyatt Mammen also drove in a run with a hit to shortstop and another run scored on the throw. Colbie Glenn’s double then scored Kyle Koehler with the sixth run of the game.

Glenn added another double in the top of the seventh inning, this time driving in two runs. Michael Lucas drove in Glenn with a triple to left field and the final score of 9-2 was reached.

Lincoln had 12 hits versus the Irish.

Colbie Glenn was 3-for-5 with three RBIs and two runs scored.

Michael Lucas, Brenden Wurth and Jaden Langley each had two hits for Lincoln.

Wyatt Mammen picked up the win on the mound. Mammen tossed a complete game, allowing two runs on six hits over seven innings. He struck out 11 batters and walked one batter.

Lincoln defeated Limestone 6-4 in a Friday afternoon home game.

Lincoln was on the board with a run in the bottom of the first inning after Colbie Glenn and Michael Lucas started the game with back-to-back singles and after a sacrifice fly by Trey Schilling, Glenn scored the first run of the game during a double steal he and Lucas pulled off.

After falling behind 3-1 in the top of the fourth inning, the Railsplitters bats went to work again in the bottom of the inning. Griffin Shaw slugged an RBI single to left field, Glenn sent an RBI double to right field and Lucas blasted a two-run single to left field. Lincoln led 5-3 when the inning came to a close.

In the bottom of the sixth inning Lucas added an RBI single to center for insurance and the Railsplitters held on for the 6-4 win over Limestone.

Carson Fuiten got the start on the mound for Lincoln and the freshman picked up the win. Fuiten settled in after hitting the first batter of the game with the first pitch. He worked five innings and allowed four runs on seven hits. He struck out one batter and walked zero.

Fuiten was relieved by Trey Schilling, who worked a scoreless inning.

Colbie Glenn closed out the game and retired the side in the seventh to earn the save.

The Railsplitters had 10 hits versus the Rockets.

Michael Lucas was 4-for-4 with three RBIs for Lincoln.

Colbie Glenn was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI.

Saturday, April 8, 2023

The Railsplitters split a doubleheader with their Apollo Conference opponents, the Charleston Trojans. In game one the Railsplitters won 8-5. In game two Charleston won 8-0.

Playing at Charleston, the Railsplitters exploded for seven runs in the third inning. The big hits were home runs by Wyatt Mammen and Colbie Glenn. Mammen drove in two runs with his blast and Glenn drove in three runs on his hit over the center field fence. Jarrett Evers and Brenden Wurth each had RBI doubles in the inning to add to the offense. After the third inning came to a close, Lincoln was on top 8-1.

The Trojans would score runs in the bottom of the fifth and seventh innings, but Lincoln would hold on to record the 8-5 win.

Colbie Glenn, Michael Lucas and Jaden Leadley each recorded two hits for Lincoln.

Wyatt Mammen earned the win for Lincoln. He tossed four and two-thirds innings, allowing three runs on seven hits. He struck out six batters and walked two batters.

This win was an extra-inning affair between Lincoln and Springfield Southeast. The Spartans tied the game in the bottom of the seventh inning, 6-6 the score when the game went into extras. Lincoln scored twice in the top of the eighth inning and held off a threat in the bottom of the inning to take an 8-7 victory over Southeast.

Jaden Leadley continued to swing a hot bat for the Railsplitters and his RBI double in the first inning put Lincoln up 1-0.

The tandem of Lucas and Leadley smacked singles in the second inning to put Lincoln in front 4-1.

Southeast tied the game 4-4 in the bottom of the third inning.

Lincoln went ahead 5-4 in the top of the fifth inning on a sacrifice fly by Drew Hayes.

In the bottom of the sixth inning Southeast tied the game 5-5.

A bases loaded walk allowed Lincoln a 6-5 lead in the top of the seventh inning.

Southeast tied the game on an RBI double in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Ashton Corley’s sacrifice fly scored Lucas with the go-ahead run in the eighth inning. Jarrett Evers scored on a passed ball to put Lincoln in front 8-6.

The Spartans scored on a wild pitch in the bottom of the eighth inning but left runners stranded at first and second base when the final batter of the game popped out to Lucas at second.

The Railsplitters won a thriller by a final score of 8-7.

Wyatt Mammen picked up another win here in relief. He worked one inning and allowed one run.

Colbie Glenn earned the save, getting the final batter to pop out.

Brenden Wurth started the game for Lincoln. Wurth tossed two and one third innings, allowing four hits and four runs. He walked two batters and struck out one batter.

Jaden Leadley worked four and one-third innings, allowing two runs on two hits. He struck out two batters and walked five batters.

Leadley was also 3-for-5 at the plate with two RBIs.

Glenn was 2-for-5 with a run scored.

Lincoln played at Taylorville Saturday in an Apollo Conference doubleheader and the team swept the Tornadoes, 14-6 and 10-5 the scores.

Game One

In game one Lincoln was led by Michael Lucas at the plate and Wyatt Mammen and Colbie Glenn on the mound as the Railsplitters won 14-6.

Mammen started the game and earned the win. Mammen worked four innings and allowed five runs on eight hits. He struck out six batters and walked two batters.

Glenn threw three innings, earning the save. He allowed a run on one hit and struck out six batters while walking three batters.

The Railsplitters plated one run in the bottom of the first inning to take the lead. Trey Schilling’s RBI double to left field scored Jarrett Evers for the 1-0 lead.

Michael Lucas added a two-run single in the top of the third inning for Lincoln. Evers added a sacrifice fly to score a run, Mammen drew a bases loaded walk to plate a run and Hayes added a fielder’s choice to score another run. Lincoln was up 6-0 in the third inning.

The Tornadoes came back to score three times in the bottom of the third inning, making the score quickly 6-3.

But the top of the fourth inning was a good one for Lincoln’s bats. Lucas doubled in Glenn, who had walked. Leadley doubled in Lucas in the next at-bat. After stealing third, Leadley scored on an error by Taylorville’s catcher and Lincoln was on top 9-3.

Hayes made the score 10-5 in the top of the fifth inning with an RBI double to right field. Hayes was held up at third when Corley doubled, but he would eventually score on a passed ball. Corley came racing home on a sacrifice fly by Lucas and that made the score 12-5.

Lincoln added two more runs in the top of the sixth inning to take a 14-6 lead. Trey Schilling’s sacrifice fly accounted for one run driven in and Hayes’ RBI single accounted for the other run.

The Tornadoes were shut out in the final two innings by Glenn and the Railsplitters take game one 14-6.

Lucas was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and four RBIs.

Jaden Leadley, Drew Hayes and Ashton Corley also recorded two hits apiece. Hayes drove in three runs.

As a team the Railsplitters pounded out 12 hits.

Game Two

In game two Lincoln scored in each of the last four innings and won by a final score of 10-5.

The Railsplitters scoring started in the fourth inning with a blast. Wyatt Mammen homered to left with Jarrett Evers on base and the Railsplitters were up 2-0.

An RBI single by Leadley put Lincoln up 3-1 in the top of the fifth inning.

In the top of the sixth inning Lincoln took a 7-1 lead. Hayes drove in a run with an RBI double and Glenn drove in a run with an RBI single. Two runners would also score on a wild pitch.

Trey Schilling’s RBI double in the top of the seventh inning scored Evers with another run. With two runners on base Hayes slugged a double to center, bringing both Schilling and Wes Tedrick home for the 10-1 lead.

The Tornadoes made the game exciting in the bottom of the seventh inning, plating four runs before finally ending any further threat on a line out to Schilling at short.

Trey Schilling was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI.

Drew Hayes was 2-for-4 with three RBIs and a run scored.

As a team the Railsplitters had 10 hits.

Tate Johnston earned the win for Lincoln. He threw a complete game, allowing five runs on 10 hits. He struck out six batters and walked two batters.

Lincoln will play two doubleheaders on the schedule this week, versus Prairie Central and Effingham. The Railsplitters also have a game scheduled with Springfield Lanphier.
