Obituary
David Lee Wooten, 67, of Lincoln and
formerly of Ottawa, passed away at 6:58 p.m. on
Tuesday, April 18, 2023, at HSHS St. John’s Hospital
in Springfield.
Visitation will be held on Friday, April 21, 2023,
from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Hope Chapel
Church, 2501 Woodlawn Road, Lincoln. A graveside
service will be held Tuesday, April 25, 2023, at
11:00 a.m. at Zion Cemetery in Ozark, Illinois.
David was born January 26, 1956, in Marion,
Illinois, the son of Charles L. Wooten and Lula
Belle (Deaton) Wooten. He was united in marriage to
Vicki Vercolio on September 18, 1976. She survives.
David is also survived by four children: Joshua
(Jackie) Wooten of Olympia, Washington, Melissa Long
of Lincoln, Brianna (Justin) Brown of Burlington,
Iowa, and Tyler Wooten of Oxford, Mississippi; five
grandchildren: Ashley, Nathan, Trevin, Sophie, and
Jacob; two brothers: Steve (Leslie) Wooten of
Sheridan and Greg (Luann) Wooten of Lincoln; and one
sister: Donna Heroux of Chrisman.

He was preceded in death by one
brother, Keith Wooten, and his parents.
David worked for the Libbey-Owens-Ford automotive
glass manufacturing plant in Naplate.
He was an avid outdoorsman who
enjoyed hunting and fishing. In 1991, he caught a
35-pound muskie in Minocqua, Wisconsin that was
featured in Midwest Outdoors magazine.
David was a staple in local recreational sports
throughout his life including slow-pitch softball,
league bowling, basketball, and volleyball. He
played in numerous softball leagues and tournaments
across Ottawa, Marseilles, Plano, Oswego, Yorkville,
and Ransom, and was known for his competitive and
generous spirit on and off the diamond.
Memorials may be made to his family.
Final arrangements are entrusted with Peasley
Funeral Home of Lincoln.
