Loyd Kirby inducted into Alpha
Epsilon Rho National Honor Society for Electronic Media

Kirby, marketing manager at WLCN 96.3 FM in rural Atlanta, has been
nominated and inducted as a professional member into the national
honor society for electronic media, Alpha Epsilon Rho.
Professional members of Alpha Epsilon Rho (AERho) must be nominated
by an administrator of the organization. Kirby was nominated for
membership by Jim Wilson, Executive Director of NBS-AERho, the
National Electronic Media Association.
Kirby became full-time marketing manager for WLCN in March 2021. He
also serves as morning show co-host, sells/produces advertising,
hosts a weekly public affairs program and produces most of the
station’s YouTube livestreams. He built and launched a new web site
(WLCNOnline.com) for the station which features a comprehensive
calendar of area events; in the 21 months since its launch, overall
traffic to the site has almost doubled, increasing by 183 percent.
Prior to working full-time at WLCN, he worked for the
station as a part-time as a videographer and social media
coordinator. Since 2018, he has overseen the station’s live YouTube
videostream offerings, which include public affairs programs, the
Cheap Seats Saturday Morning Sports Show, Lincoln Community High
School sports, the Logan County Fair Queen Pageant and other special
events.
Kirby is an adjunct instructor in communication and math at
Heartland Community College. He previously taught
communication/broadcasting and served as faculty adviser/general
manager of the FM radio station at Lincoln College, also serving at
various times as faculty adviser for the student newspaper The
Emancipator, faculty adviser for the yearbook, institutional public
relations director and sports information director.

Since 2022, he has served as a
judge for the Illinois High School Association journalism state
finals. Kirby also has written for Lincoln Daily News and the
Lincoln Courier.
Alpha Epsilon Rho was founded in 1943 as a collegiate
organization to educate and recognize future radio
professionals. Professionals in electronic media are eligible
for invitation to AERho membership based on their professional
record. AERho members also participate in activities of the
National Broadcasting Society. The National Broadcasting Society
and Alpha Epsilon Rho make up the National Electronic Media
Association.
Membership in AERho exemplifies excellence of work, demonstrated
leadership qualities and service to the organization, community
and electronic media industry.
