Lincoln improves to 10-7 on the season

The Railsplitters began the week with a 7-2 win over the Prairie
Central Hawks.
Colbie Glenn got the Railsplitters on the board in the first inning
when he homered to left field on a 2-0 count to put Lincoln up 1-0.
Lincoln tacked on four more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning.
Trey Schilling led off the inning with a triple to center field and
Drew Hayes brought him home on a double to left field. Michael Lucas
then added an RBI single to score Wes Tedrick and Jaden Leadley hit
a sacrifice fly to bring home Kyle Koehler. Glenn also scored on a
wild pitch to make the score 5-1.
The Railsplitters plated two more runs in the fifth inning. Jacob
Langley’s sacrifice fly allowed Schilling to score a run. After a
fielder’s choice by Michael Lucas scored Hayes, the Railsplitters
were up 7-1.
The Hawks scored one more time in the top of the seventh inning and
the final score was set at 7-2.
Carson Fuiten earned the win for Lincoln. He pitched a complete
game, allowing just two runs on six hits. He struck out one batter
and walked none. Fuiten threw just 67 pitches, 51 which were
strikes. It was an impressive outing for the freshman.

The Railsplitters split the doubleheader with Effingham on Saturday.
The Hearts won the first game 3-1 and the Railsplitters won the
second game 8-7.
In the first game, the Hearts scored three runs in the third inning
off Lincoln starter Brenden Wurth.
The Railsplitters lone run was scored in the top of the fourth
inning when Colbie Glenn reached on an error to start the inning.
Glenn advanced around the bases on passed balls and eventually
scored on yet another passed ball.
The Hearts shut down the Railsplitters for the remainder of the
game, winning the pitcher’s duel 3-1.
Each team had only three hits.
Lincoln’s hits were courtesy of Colbie Glenn, Jarrett Evers and Drew
Hayes.

Brenden Wurth took the loss, giving up three runs
on three hits. He struck out three batters and walked three batters.
In the second game, the Railsplitters scored three times in the
third inning, taking a 3-1 lead at the time. Jaden Leadley’s two-run
single was the highlight of the inning, scoring Wes Tedrick and
Colbie Glenn. Brenden Wurth also added an RBI single to pad the
lead.
The Hearts took a 4-3 lead in the bottom of the fourth inning.
The first three Railsplitters reached base in the top of the fifth
inning. Leadley and Wurth singled and then Trey Schilling walked to
load the bases. Wyatt Mammen cleared the bases with a double to
center field and the Railsplitters took a 6-4 lead. Jarrett Evers’
pinch hit single drove in two more runs for Lincoln and the lead
grew to 8-4.
The Hearts were able to score a run in the bottom
of the sixth inning and two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning
before the final batter grounded out to Colbie Glenn. Glenn was on
the pitcher’s mound to end the game and the Hearts left a runner in
scoring position.
Lincoln held on to win 8-7.
Colbie Glenn earned the win in relief. Glenn worked three and
two-thirds innings, striking out five batters. He allowed four hits
and three runs. Glenn walked two batters.
Wyatt Mammen started the game for Lincoln. Mammen lasted three and
one-third innings, striking out five batters. Mammen gave up four
runs on two hits. He walked six guys.
The Railsplitters had nine hits.
Jaden Leadley was 2-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored.
Brenden Wurth was 2-for-4 with an RBI and one run scored.
Trey Schilling, Wyatt Mammen, Wes Tedrick, Jarrett Evers and Griffin
Shaw each had hits for Lincoln.
Lincoln will host Morton (Tuesday) and Mount Zion (Saturday) this
week, while visiting Metamora on Friday.
