Obituary
Judith Hutchings, 76 of Springfield,
formerly of Mt. Pulaski passed away on Sunday,
February 26, 2023, at Lewis Memorial Christian
Village in Springfield, due to complications related
to Frontotemporal dementia (FTD) which she battled
for nine years.
Judi was born on April 16, 1946, in Lincoln, the
daughter of Arthur and Virginia (Stuart) Stuckel.
She is survived by her brother Stephen Stuckel of
Eden Prairie, MN.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her
daughter, Gina (47), who passed away from cancer in
May of 2022 and her former husband, Vernon
Hutchings.
Judi graduated from Illinois State University with a
bachelor’s degree in special education. She went on
to pursue her passion of teaching students with
special needs for 20 years in the Springfield area.
After retirement, Judi continued to be involved in
that school system as a volunteer. She read books to
the kids and also incorporated her love for animals
by taking her pets and rescue animals to those same
classrooms to show the kids.

One of her hobbies was designing
Christmas wreaths and trees as part of the annual
Festival of Trees fundraiser to support health
related projects at Memorial Health Systems in
Springfield. She will be remembered for her love of
music and the arts. She was a big fan of singer
Jimmy Buffett and enjoyed going to his concerts
whenever she could. She also volunteered as an usher
at the Performance Arts Center in Springfield for 20
years so she could be close to the various musicals
and events there.
A memorial service for Judi will be held on
Thursday, May 4, 2023, at 11 a.m. at
Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Mt. Pulaski.
Visitation will take place prior to the service from

follow the services at Mt. Pulaski Cemetery.
Memorial donations can be made to The Association
for Frontotemporal Degeneration (AFTD) at 2700
Horizon Drive, Suite 120, King of Prussia, PA 19406
