Obituary
Twila Jean Dowell, 86, of Elkhart,
passed away on Wednesday, August 2, 2023, at The
Villas in Sherman.
Twila was born January 18, 1937, in Oakford, the
daughter of Clark and Wilna (Ishmael) Altig. She
married Moulton Dowell on July 29, 1962 in Greenview.
He preceded her in death on February 4, 2018.
Twila is survived by her daughter, Amy (Jeff)
Edwards of Ballwin, MO; three grandchildren, Olivia,
Cole, and Jackson all of Ballwin, MO; and sister,
Janet (Don) McAtee of Greenview, as well as several
nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Moulton;
her parents; and a brother, Clark U.J. Altig.
Twila was a member of the Daughters of the American
Revolution and Lincoln Community Concert group. She
was the director of the bell choir at Elkhart
Christian Church. Twila liked to be involved with
anything regarding music at multiple churches. She
loved strong, black coffee, camping, and the
Dodgers; whether Brooklyn or Los Angeles. She was a
fierce competitor and in her free time, |
Twila enjoyed playing cards and
trying to beat her friends/family at backgammon.
Twila loved her students and music. She took pride
in the impact she made on her students over the
years. Twila loved every neighbor she ever had,
making many friendships along the way. Most of all,
Twila loved her family and her community.
Services for Twila will be held at 10
a.m. on Monday, August 7, 2023, at Elkhart Christian
Church in Elkhart. Visitation will take place the
night prior, Sunday, August 6, 2023, from 2 p.m. to
5 p.m. at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in
Lincoln. Burial will follow the service at Elmwood
Cemetery in Greenview. Memorials may be made in
Twila’s name to the Elkhart Historical Society.
