Obituary
Hank Barr, 67, of Yellville, AR,
formerly of Bloomington, peacefully passed away with
his wife by his side, July 20, 2023.
Hank was born in Lincoln, on June 18, 1956, the
first child of Herb and Mary Barr of McLean. He was
preceded in death by his father. His mother
survives.
Also surviving are his sister, Carolyn Finnegan
(Jim) of Minier, and brother, Alan Barr (JoAnn) of
Normal.
He married his loving wife, Alice Marie Simpson, in
June of 1989. She fulfilled her vows and stayed by
his side through sickness and in health. He loved
her very much.
He was a loyal and devoted father to his three
daughters, Brandi Splitter of Lincoln, Alicia Crum
(Mark) of Prattville, AL and Cara Lohrenz (Nick) of
Lincoln, his son-in-law, Ben Splitter of Beason and
his two stepsons Tommy Richmond (Carrie) of Lincoln
and Willie Richmond of Lincoln.
He loved all of his children and grandchildren. He
has 17 grandchildren and one great grandchild. He
was a cousin and uncle to many.
Hank graduated from Olympia High School. He worked
for PPG and Eaton in Lincoln. In 1997, he began
working at Kroeschell in Pontiac, IL where he
recently retired.
Hank was a hard worker and a good son and husband.
He never missed an opportunity to show his children
how much they were loved. They never went without.
He spent endless hours playing with them, going to
the zoo, camping, fishing, having squirt gun fights,
playing “horse”, playing catch, and playing games
that he always referred to as, “Daddy Wins Again.”
He was the dad who always sent cards for birthdays,
Mother’s Day, Valentine’s Day and “just thinking of
you”. He sent many boxes over the years to his kids
to let them know he was thinking of them.
He struggled with health issues the past few years,
but he tried to not let that define him. He loved to
travel and loved to watch his kids and grandkids in
their ballgames.
As he walked through the gates of Heaven, he was
greeted by his father and so many more friends and
family members. He is no longer in pain, and we are
grateful for that.
One of his favorite things to do was go to the zoo.
He loved animals. His favorite zoo that he took his
kids to many times over the years is Miller Park Zoo
in Bloomington, IL.
He chose to be cremated. The visitation will be at
the Miller Park Pavillion (1020 South Morris Avenue
Bloomington, IL) at 1:00pm on Sunday July 30. At
2:00pm, there will be memorial and prayer services.
Hank was a Cubs, Packers and Illini fan who loved
the outdoors and the beach. Dress casually as he
would have liked.
Following the services, we will spend the rest of
the day at Miller Park Zoo celebrating Hank’s
passion and love for his family.
Memorials may be made in his name to Miller Park
Zoo. Or simply celebrate him by going to the zoo and
enjoying the little things in life.
Rest in peace. Fly high, Daddy. You were so loved
and will be forever missed.
