The event kicked off at 3 p.m. on the Lincoln
Stage. Lee-Ann Burgener, Executive Officer of the SAHBA, hosted this
contest in which kids were tasked with building houses with a set of
Legos provided by the Association. The kids had thirty minutes to
build the best house they could. The kids were broken into three age
groups, these being ages 5-8, 9-12, and 13-17.

Burgener shared that this was the first year SAHBA has hosted an
event like this at the Logan County Fair, but you wouldn’t have been
able to guess that by the number of kids participating. In total,
forty-two kids participated, and several had to be put on a waiting
			list for a spot.

When the timer started, all the kids quickly got to work building
their houses. Little time was wasted as the kids creatively used the
Lego pieces provided to build what they saw in their heads. No two
houses looked alike, and some really stood out.

One child decided to build a treehouse, creating a house smaller
than the others and delicately balancing it on a tree made of brown
			Legos.

Another child decided to build a white pool with blue
water next to their house. Yet another decided to tell a story with
			the house they built.

Once the thirty minutes was up, judges went around to look at each
house and talk to the child that created it.
The first, second, and third place winners from each
age group were invited to another Lego building competition at the
Illinois State Fair. The winners will go up against kids from
Sangamon, Morgan, and Menard counties, as SAHBA hosted Lego building
contests at these counties’ fairs as well. Burgener shared that
there will also be another Lego building contest for anyone to sign
up for there in addition to the champion contest.

In the youngest age group of 5-8, the third place winner was Tyler
Davis, the second place winner was Paxston Ogden, and the first
			place winner was Doc Whitley.

In the 9-12 age group, the third place winner was Elliott Bacus, the
second place winner was Jayce Naugle, and the first place winner was
			Daniel Davis.

In the last age group of 13-17, the third place winner was Rachel
Knight, the second place winner was Kaleb Knight, and the first
			place winner was Ericka McClellan.
