[August 11, 2023]  Auctioneer Dan Naughton started the steer auction, with Ty Tucker taking the microphone about midway through. In total there were 15 steers sold at auction.

The segment began with a visit from the Logan County 2023 fair royalty. Queen Ellyn Martinex, Junior Miss Ella Wrage and Little Miss Kodi Eigenbrod entered the ring and introduced themselves to the spectators and each spoke a few words.

There were also a couple of special recognitions during the steer section. Emma Eeten was awarded the Troy Lynn Miller Award, presented in memory of the longstanding cattleman and beef superintendent at the Logan County Fair. After during his time serving the fair, his daughter Tracy Rawlings and grandson Troy were heavily involved and Tracy remains a vital part of the 4-h beef show each year.

Beau Tsachantz was recognized with the “Top Herdsman Award” in the scramble calves.

When Kennadie Finchum brought out her cress bred steer, she was acknowledged as the winner of the 2022 Scramble Calf Grand Champion.

Kennedie and her family were also recognized in another way. Many in the Atlanta area know the Finchum family and know that Kennadie’s dad Jay is currently battling cancer.

Around the arena there were several tee shirts that said “Finchum Fighters” and offered a show of support for the family. While Kennadie’s steer brought the top bid per pound in the steer category at $7.75 per pound, it wasn’t the only good news the family received that day.

The announcer shared that Kennadie has been at the fair all this week without her parents. Jay and Amber are in Texas where Jay is receiving treatment for the very rare cancer called Myxofibrosarcoma. The young woman has done very well with support from her extended family.

The announcer said as another show of support, the Finchum Fighters had raised an additional $8,000 that would be given to Kennadie to pass on to her parents.
