As the 87th Annual Logan County Fair neared its end
Sunday afternoon, a 57-year-tradition continued as several cakes
were baked and judged before a live audience, then later auctioned
off to the highest bidders to raise money for 4-H.
|
Judging the cakes was Tami Thomas, who went to culinary school and
has worked in the baking industry.
While almost all the bakers are veterans of the cake classic, Hannah
Meece was a new face this year.
Cake Classic Superintendent Samantha Danosky is thankful for all the
sponsors who help make the cake classic possible. Sponsors included
McEntire’s Home Appliance and TV supplied the ovens, Darlene Begolka
supplied the Tupperware for the cakes, Samsational Sweets supplied
the boxes and gift bags and baskets for the participants. Other
sponsors were Seth Goodman, StuffedAria, Guest House, LMH market,
Cullers Fries and Top Hat.
At the auction, the eight cakes auctioned by Ty Tucker raised a
total of $2,740. This entire amount will go directly to the Logan
County 4-H to support programs throughout the year.
After cake classic results were announced, cake was
auctioned off by Tucker.
Once each cake was auctioned, some of the bakers posed for a photo
with the buyer and Logan County Fair Queen Ellyn Martinez, Junior
Miss Ellie Wrage and Little Miss Kodi Eigenbrod.
Marvin Bartman was the top bidder $1,650 for the first-place cake.
First place: Karen Sandel-German Chocolate cake
Sandel has been participating in the cake classic since 1985 and
said it was her first time to get first place.
Top bidder for the cake was Marvin Bartman with his bid of $1,650.
Second Place: Darlene Crider-Citrus Chiffon Cake
Crider, a long-time participant, got first place for this cake five
years ago.
Top bidder was Jackson Johnson at $75.
Third Place: Hannah Crider-Cherry Vanilla Cake
Hannah Crider said it is a cake she has made for previous cake
classics.

Top bidder was Tom House at $55.
Seventh Place: Mary Johnson-White Butter Cake.

The top bidder was Jim Xamis at $100. As Xamis has done in the past,
he donated it back to be auctioned off a second time. This time, the
top bidder was Stacy Goodman at $50.
A $200 donation came in from Darci Culler of Culler’s fries after
Jackson Johnson sold her one of the cakes he bought.
As the grand total of $2,740 indicates, the bidders love to support
a great program and enjoy delicious cakes.
