A stormy morning on Friday cleared off to a beautiful afternoon for Lincoln Park District Aquatic Center’s Circus Family Fun Day. Bright sun was balanced by breezy skies, and Brew 66 was on hand to provide refreshing drinks. Circus music played in the background all afternoon while anyone taking a break from the pool or the water slide could play games like bags toss, ball toss, and a giant Connect Four. Lifeguards even took their own turn at Connect Four between shifts; the loser had to jump in the pool. Lifeguards also led a hula hoop contest as well as impromptu water relays and races with the kids enjoying the day. A couple of lifeguards started a spontaneous competition with children to see who could launch themselves the farthest across the deep end in a cannonball jump.

Gidget Freeberg traveled from out-of-town with several children to enjoy Circus Day at the pool with her sister, Molly Risse, who lives in Lincoln.. “Isn’t this great?!” Freeberg exclaimed. “We came all the way from Waverly! What a great day!” Parents, grandparents, kids, and lifeguards alike all appeared to be having a fantastic time spending one of the last days of summer vacation in the water and the sunshine.

Aquatic Center Manager, Jennifer Prather, says she is proud of the growth and responsibility she has seen in all the lifeguards this year and she treated them to a Red Carpet Awards Night last week before most of them return to school.

She was equally proud to announce lifeguard promotions for next season.

Emma Adams

Emma Adams has been promoted to Swim Lessons Coordinator.

Admission for Circus Day was a nonperishable item for the Lincoln Logan Food Pantry giving families a lower cost admission, as well as the opportunity to support others in the community. Regular pool admission and pool passes are also accepted on Family Fun Days.

This year’s lifeguards have already chosen the themes for next year’s Family Fun Days. June’s theme will be Candyland, July’s theme will be Olympics to coincide with the 2024 Summer Olympic Games, and August Family Fun Day will have a Fiesta spin to it.

New Aquatic Center hours begin August 14, 2023. Adult Lap Swim will continue everyday from 10:30-12:00 daily and the Toddler pool will be open at these times on Saturday and Sunday only. Public swim will be on Saturdays and Sundays from noon to 5:45 p.m. The last day the pool will be open this summer is Labor Day, September 4.
