Kenneth Melbourne, 81, passed away on Wednesday, August 16, 2023, in his Lincoln home with family by his side.

There are too few words to adequately express the magnitude of admiration and gratitude for having this man in our lives.

Ken was a Navy veteran. He was an intelligent and creative man who loved to tinker. Combining his passions for electronics and aviation, he constructed his own flight simulator, complete with functional panels.

Ken was selfless, always considering others before himself. He had a great sense of humor and made it his mission to make others laugh or at least smile. Ken had a t-shirt collection to support this mission.

 

In his final months he was cared for by his daughter, Diana and granddaughter, Katrina. This he considered being “spoiled”, as he was fiercely independent. Good days were spent looking at photos, telling stories, and of course joking. He had a great appreciation for all who contributed to his care, including his hospice team.

Ken was a true gem of a human; smart, funny, kind, and humble. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jan. Ken is survived by his children, Michael Green, Diana Ackerman, and David Melbourne; brother, Melvin (Mike) Melbourne; as well as many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
