The
Lady Railers dominated the Springfield Southeast Spartans on Tuesday
night in Central State Eight volleyball action. In fact, Peyton
Sasse led all players with 11 kills and she was definitely in
control every time she touched the ball as the Lady Railers Varsity
won 25-7 and 25-10.

Set one
Sasse was just getting warmed up when she notched her first kill of
set one to make the score 5-3. A kill from Alyssa Company in the
middle added another point. With Addy Qualters serving, the Lady
Railers lead would increase to 11-3. Kloe Froebe also had a kill
during this run. Lily Holmes recorded her first kill of the set to
make the score 12-4. With Company at the service line, the lead
increased to 14-4. She has perhaps the most wicked serve on the
team. Another kill by Sasse put Lincoln in a double-digit lead, 15-5
the score. With Sasse and friends playing lights out the remainder
of the set, the Lady Railers were able to cruise to a 25-7 victory.
Set two
Sasse was on fire to start set two and she really never let up. Her
first two kills were literally hit so hard that you could hear the
ball deflate as it hit the court on the other side of the net. She
can absolutely annihilate the volleyball. Lincoln was on the board
with a quick 2-0 lead. Then back-to-back kills by Sasse and Company
put Lincoln up 4-2. After a tip by Company, the Lady Railers were up
6-2. Lincoln then went on a 6-1 run with Sasse, Froebe and Company
creating the highlights. Sasse’s was a kill, Froebe’s was a tip (and
even the JV team cheering said, “That was good!”) and finally
Company earned a point for her team with a magnificent block from
the middle and then she did a slide, that resulted in a kill and
another point.
Perfect set by Qualters on that play. The team was obviously having
a blast with the score 11-3. With Froebe serving consistently in the
middle of the set, the score would reach 19-8. Sasse tallied a
couple monster kills to make the score 21-9. Sasse would even end
the game on a kill, no surprise here. Although, it took about
thirty- seconds of standing around waiting for the referee and the
Southeast coach to settle their differences, before Stoltzenburg
could serve game point.
The Southeast coach had already received a yellow card in set one,
and it’s a good bet the referee was telling him, “You need to calm
down” here in set two as the game was nearly over. Game point was
quick, as Stoltzenburg’s serve was received well and the Lady
Railers offense was quick to see Froebe pass it off to Qualters and
she put it in the air for Sasse to hammer down.

The Southeast defender laid herself out on the floor, making a good
effort for the ball, but she missed and quickly sprung up as if she
was just doing a quick push-up.
The Lincoln players were quick to the net to shake hands and exit
the gym with a 25-10 win.
One really nice thing about being back in the CS8 is leaving a
sporting event while it is still daylight out. The game was over at
7:48 p.m. and the players were back on the bus just ahead of 8:00
p.m.
Head coach Kaylee Beekman offered these post game comments, as her
team improved to 2-0 in the Central State Eight:
“The girls did a great job playing through the constant momentum
shifts throughout the night. Taryn Stoltzenburg had a great game
defensively. Addy Qualters ran the offense very well and Peyton
Sasse led the team with 11 kills and 6 digs.”
The Varsity team improved to 3-0 overall on the season.
The Lady Railers Junior Varsity won 25-7 and 25-13.
They improved to 3-0 on the season.
The Lady Railers Freshman played three sets to 15 and won each set.
The scores were 15-10, 15-4 and 15-9.
They are now 3-4 on the season.
Lincoln will host Jacksonville on Thursday night.
