Obituary

Nancy J. Read was called home by her Heavenly Father on Thursday, August 17, at Memorial Hospital in Springfield.

Nancy was the daughter of William E. and Jennie M. (Dalbey) Gleason. She married Hal E. Read on November 19, 1961. He survives. This union brought forth a daughter, Jena M. Read, residing in Lincoln. Other survivors include Margaret Rankin and Paul E. Gleason of Lincoln, and sister-in-law, Margaret Gleason of Pennsylvania.

Preceding Nancy in death were her parents; two brothers, Donald L. and Wendell L. Gleason; and brother-in-law, Carl Rankin.

Nancy began her adult career as a secretary at Lincoln Community High School, followed by motherhood in which she cherished every moment. Years later, she was a caregiver to her mother and aunt, Lois Gandt.

She was a member of Lincoln Christian Church. Part of her church involvements through the years included teaching Sunday school, Harvest of Talents team member, and VBS director. Nancy was a former school board member, volunteer at the Crisis Pregnancy Center, and assistant superintendent at the Logan County Fair. She loved books, sewing, culinary, flowers, and pampering the family pets.

Though Nancy was not ready for a temporary separation from her loved ones, she knew God would be with them. She was looking forward to being in the presence of our risen Savior and those loved ones who had passed before her.

A visitation will be at Lincoln Christian Church from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Monday, August 21, 2023. A family graveside service will be held. Memorials may be made in Nancy’s name to Logan County Food Pantry.
