Elizabeth “Betty” Marie Onken, 94, of Lincoln, formerly of Mason
City passed away on Thursday, August 24, 2023 at Timber Creek
Village in Lincoln.

a.m. at the Mason City United Methodist Church

Saturday at 11 a.m. at the church

Obituary
Elizabeth “Betty” Marie Onken, 94, of
Lincoln, formerly of Mason City passed away on
Thursday, August 24, 2023 at Timber Creek Village in
Lincoln. She was born on November 15, 1928, in Mason
City to Robert and Clara (Auxier) Cunningham. On
June 20, 1948, in Easton she married John “Fritz”
Onken. He preceded her in death in 2022.
Betty is survived by daughter Debbie (Ken)
Schweitzer of Lincoln, 5 grandchildren: Adam (Katie)
Schweitzer, Hilary (Spence) Kelly, Elizabeth Onken,
Jacob Onken, Michael Onken and 4 great-grandsons:
Caleb, Wyatt, Austin, and Alex, and brother John
(Janet) Cunningham. She was preceded in death by her
parents, son Jay Onken, 3 brothers: Robert “Bob”
Cunningham, Stanley Cunningham, and James
Cunningham.
Betty was valedictorian at Easton High School. She
was a member of the DAR and the Mason City Woman’s
Club. She worked as a secretary at Cunningham Agency
and was a housewife. She was a member of the Mason
City United Methodist Church. Betty was known for
her cooking, and she never missed sending a birthday
card to her family.
The family wishes to especially thank the staff at
Timber Creek Village for their loving care.
A funeral will be held on Saturday, September 2,
2023, at 11 a.m. at the Mason City United Methodist
Church. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until the
time of service at 11 a.m. also at the church,
burial to follow at Mason City Cemetery. Memorial
contributions may be made to the Mason City United
Methodist Church or Timber Creek Village. Online
