Women's Top 25 roundup: UCLA's Kiki Rice logs triple-double

[December 08, 2023]  Sophomore Kiki Rice produced her first career triple-double as No. 2 UCLA routed Cal State Northridge 111-48 in Los Angeles on Thursday.

Rice finished with 14 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists while adding seven steals. Londynn Jones scored 19 points, Gabriela Jaquez logged 18 points and nine rebounds, and Lauren Betts also had 18 points for the Bruins (8-0).

UCLA, which led 23-5 after the first quarter, shot 58.1 percent and held Cal State Northridge to 27.3 percent.

Amiyah Ferguson put up 21 points for the Matadors (2-5), who took their fifth loss in a row. Ferguson shot 7-for-16, while her teammates were 8-for-39 (20.5 percent).

No. 11 Utah 74, Saint Joseph's 48

Alissa Pili scored a season-high 31 points as the Utes crushed the Hawks in a nonconference game at Philadelphia.

Pili hit 12 of 17 shots, including 3 of 4 from 3-point range, while adding seven rebounds. Kennady McQueen added 11 points for Utah (8-1), which won its sixth consecutive game. The Utes shot 49.1 percent and limited the Saint Joseph's to 32.2 percent.

Talya Brugler paced the Hawks (8-1) with 16 points, and Mackenzie Smith added 10. While winning its previous eight games, Saint Joseph's posted double-digit margins of victory in every game but one.

Next up for the Utes is a matchup Sunday against No. 1 South Carolina in the Hall of Fame Women's Showcase in Uncasville, Conn.

No. 20 Florida State 99, Jacksonville 73

Makayla Timpson scored 19 points with 12 rebounds to pace five Seminoles in double figures during a victory over the Dolphins in Tallahassee, Fla.

Timpson shot 9-for-11 and grabbed five of her rebounds off the offensive glass. Ta'Niya Latson added 18 points for the Seminoles (7-2), Sara Bejedi had 15, O'Mariah Gordon scored 12 and Carla Viegas contributed 14 off the bench, going 4-for-9 from 3-point range.

Edyn Battle scored a game-high 26 points for Jacksonville (3-5), which fell behind 26-10 after one quarter and never recovered. Saniyah Craig added 15 points.

No. 23 Gonzaga 78, Cal 70 (OT)

An 8-0 run in overtime led the Bulldogs over the Golden Bears in Berkeley, Calif.

Kayleigh Truong hit a game-tying jumper for Gonzaga (9-2) with 31 seconds left in regulation. In the extra session, the Bulldogs were up by one before baskets from Eliza Hollingsworth and Yvonne Ejim and then two free throws apiece from Truong and Esther Little gave Gonzaga a 76-67 edge with 31 seconds remaining.

Ejim led the Bulldogs with 21 points and nine rebounds. Brynna Maxwell added 18 points, and Truong had 14 points.

Marta Suarez paced Cal (7-2) with 19 points and 10 rebounds. Leilani McIntosh produced 13 points and 11 assists, Ila Lane also had 13 points, Lulu Laditan-Twidale had 11 and McKayla Williams finished with 10.
