The Mount Pulaski Honeybears placed third in
the 7th Grade Class 2A State Tournament at Riverton High School
on Thursday night. The Honeybears defeated McNabb Putnam County
34-14.
Ella Martin led Mount Pulaski with 24 points.
Mount Pulaski trailed 4-3 at the end of the first quarter but
after shutting down the Pumas offense in the second quarter, the
Honeybears led 15-4 at the half.
The Pumas failed to score in the third quarter and Mount
Pulaski’s lead escalated to 30-4.
With a victory pretty secure in the fourth quarter, the biggest
applause here was when Madison Stoll swished a baseline jumper
for two points. The Honeybears claim third place with a 34-14
win.
Mount Pulaski finishes the season with a 20-7 record.
Nauvoo-Colusa defeated Springfield Calvary 39-14 to win the
state championship.
