[December 11, 2023]  Jonathan Quick made 25 saves in his first start against his former team as the host New York Rangers ended their first losing streak of the season with a 4-1 victory over the Los Angeles Kings on Sunday night.

Mika Zibanejad scored a power-play goal in the second period and Jonny Brodzinski also scored on the man advantage during a chaotic third, when the teams combined for 38 penalty minutes, including 10-minute misconducts to Zibanejad and Los Angeles forward Kevin Fiala.

Jimmy Vesey scored what turned out to be the game-winner late in the second as the Rangers bounced back from consecutive four-goal losses at Ottawa and Washington. Rookie Will Cuylle scored in the third for New York, and Vincent Trocheck collected three assists.

Phillip Danault scored on the power play for Los Angeles in the third after being bloodied by a puck to the face in the first period, but the Kings took their first regulation road loss. They also saw their season-opening road point streak end at 12 games. Los Angeles goalie Pheonix Copley allowed four goals on 27 shots.

Oilers 4, Devils 1

Defenseman Evan Bouchard scored to extend his point streak to 11 games, and Calvin Pickard made 14 of his 26 saves in the third period, as surging Edmonton won its seventh straight, beating visiting New Jersey.

Connor McDavid and Evander Kane each had a goal with an assist, and Derek Ryan also scored for the Oilers, who are 10-3-0 since starting 2-9-1. Bouchard's eighth goal of the season, and 16th point in the past 11 games, made it 2-0 late in the second period -- and also helped Edmonton win its seventh in a row at home.

Making his third appearance and second start for Edmonton, Pickard wasn't severely tested through the first two periods. But he was up to the task during a third-period push by the Devils, who got a Jesper Bratt goal in the frame, but no more to fall short of recording a 4-0-0 road trip. Akira Schmid made 26 saves for New Jersey, which lost for just the second time in eight games.

Capitals 4, Blackhawks 2

Nic Dowd scored twice to help visiting Washington defeat Chicago.

Dylan Strome scored his team-leading 11th goal of the season for the Capitals, who have won two straight after losing three in a row (0-2-1). Beck Malenstyn had two assists, and Darcy Kuemper made 32 saves. Alex Ovechkin had his 11th assist, but saw his goal drought extend to 10 games, matching his career high, which ended in March 2017.

Philipp Kurashev had a goal and an assist for the Blackhawks, who had won two straight for the first time this season. Connor Bedard had two assists, and Arvid Soderblom made 23 saves. Both teams were playing the second of back-to-backs.

Wild 3, Kraken 0

Matt Boldy continued his offensive resurgence and goaltender Filip Gustavsson made 24 saves for his second shutout of the season as Minnesota defeated host Seattle.

Marco Rossi also scored and Joel Eriksson Ek added an empty-netter with 3.9 seconds remaining for the Wild, who snapped a two-game skid and improved to 5-2-0 since John Hynes replaced Dean Evason as coach.

Joey Daccord stopped 23 of 25 shots for Seattle, which suffered its eighth consecutive defeat (0-6-2).

Panthers 5, Blue Jackets 2

Aleksander Barkov had a goal and two assists for Florida in a win against host Columbus.

Gustav Forsling had a goal and an assist and Sam Reinhart had four assists for the Panthers, who are 5-1-1 in their past seven games. Florida's Anthony Stolarz made 17 saves.

Yegor Chinakhov and Dmitri Voronkov scored goals and Jet Greaves made 31 saves for the Blue Jackets, who have lost six of their past nine.

Jets 4, Ducks 2

Gabe Vilardi scored from long range with 1:49 remaining and Winnipeg increased its winning streak to four games with a comeback victory over host Anaheim.

Mark Scheifele scored an empty-net goal for the Jets with 29 seconds remaining, while Nino Niederreiter and Morgan Barron also scored third-period goals for Winnipeg, which trailed 2-0 early in the final period. Connor Hellebuyck had 25 saves for the Jets, who have won nine of their last 12 games.

Alex Killorn and Adam Henrique scored and Gibson had 27 saves as the Ducks saw their losing streak extend to four games while going 1-11 since Nov. 15.

Predators 2, Canadiens 1

Colton Sissons scored both of Nashville's goals on assists from Roman Josi in beating host Montreal.

The Predators built a two-goal lead and then hung on for the victory. Nashville goaltender Juuse Saros made 36 saves, including all 14 he faced in the third period, while Montreal pushed frantically for the game-tying goal. The Predators have won four of five games and 10 of 13.

Jake Evans replied for the Canadiens, who have two wins in their last six games (2-3-1). Goalie Jake Allen stopped 30 shots and has not won in seven consecutive outings. He last claimed a victory Oct. 28.
