Jansen Harkins, the 24th shooter, beat Montreal Canadiens
goaltender Sam Montembeault blocker side to give the visiting
Pittsburgh Penguins a 4-3 win on Wednesday following the longest
shootout of the NHL season.
Pittsburgh goaltender Alex Nedeljkovic, who made 39 saves in
regulation and overtime, stopped nine of 12 shots in the shootout.
Montembeault, who made 27 saves, stopped eight of 12 in the
shootout.
Sidney Crosby had two goals and an assist, Jake Guentzel scored and
Erik Karlsson had two assists for the Penguins, who won their second
straight game while experiencing the longest shootout in franchise
history.
David Savard, Jayden Struble and Sean Monahan scored for the
Canadiens, who blew two two-goal leads in losing their second
straight game.
Devils 2, Bruins 1 (OT)
Jack Hughes scored 2:47 into overtime and New Jersey earned a
victory over Boston in Newark, N.J.
Hughes had no points in his previous three games but got his sixth
career overtime game-winner as the Devils ended a six-game,
head-to-head losing streak against the Bruins. Hughes' 11th goal of
the season gave New Jersey its seventh win in nine games. Dawson
Mercer scored early in the third period.
Morgan Geekie scored in the first period for the Bruins, who fell to
9-5-3 since starting the season with a 9-0-1. The Bruins had been
4-1-0 in their previous five games.
Jets 5, Kings 2
Gabriel Vilardi produced a goal and three assists against his former
team and Winnipeg rallied with five straight goals to win in Los
Angeles.
Nikolaj Ehlers and Mark Scheifele each scored two goals for the
Jets, who were down 2-0 in the first period. It was the first career
four-point game for Vilardi, who was acquired from the Kings in a
June trade.
Anze Kopitar and Alex Laferriere scored goals for the Kings, who are
on a season-worst, three-game losing streak (0-2-1). Cam Talbot
stopped 24 shots for Los Angeles, while Pierre-Luc Dubois had an
assist against his former team.

Islanders 4, Ducks 3
Simon Holmstrom scored a short-handed goal with 1:33 left, and New
York downed Anaheim in Elmont, N.Y. The short-handed tally was the
NHL-leading fourth of the season for Holmstrom.
Kyle Palmieri, Casey Cizikas and Mathew Barzal scored for the
Islanders, who have won a season-high four straight and have
collected points in 13 of their past 14 games (9-1-4). Semyon
Varlamov made 21 saves for the victory.
Troy Terry, Henrique and Sam Carrick scored for the Ducks, who have
lost 12 of 13. John Gibson recorded 30 saves.
Avalanche 5, Sabres 1
Valeri Nichushkin scored two goals, Mikko Rantanen added a goal and
two assists, and Colorado overwhelmed Buffalo in Denver.
Sam Malinski scored his first NHL goal and added an assist while
Ivan Prosvetov turned away 29 shots for Colorado. The Avalanche
finished 3-2-0 on a five-game homestand.
Zach Benson scored and Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen made 24 saves for
Buffalo, which fell to 2-5-1 in its past eight games.
