The Lady Railers defeated Rochester 76-30 Friday night in Central State Eight Conference action on the road.

Lincoln was led in scoring by Kloe Froebe with 24 points.

Becca Heitzig and Jenna Bowman each hit double-figures with 12 points.

First Quarter

The story to start the game continues to be the outstanding defense of the Lady Railers. The girls were off to a quick start, gaining a 6-0 lead before the Rockets even had a chance to shoot the ball in the first quarter. The Rockets did sink a basket at the 6:22 mark, which is earlier than a lot of teams score on Lincoln. After Kloe Froebe sank back-to-back buckets to extend the lead to 11-2, the Rockets called a timeout. After the timeout the Lady Railers picked up the defense again without missing a beat. One steal after another on the press led to baskets and pretty soon the lead was 21-2. The team was moving the ball quickly on offense as well. With Jenna Bowman open for the three, the Lincoln lead increased to 24-2. Taryn Stoltzenburg added what looked to be the final basket of the quarter but then the ball found its way back into Lincoln’s possession, following a traveling violation on Rochester. With 1.4 seconds on the clock, Bowman dashed to the corner to collect the inbounds pass from Stoltzenburg and then she connected for a buzzer-beating three to set the first quarter score at 29-2.

Second Quarter

Bowman hit another three to start the second quarter and the lead grew to 32-2. Froebe’s basket in the paint made the score 34-2, just ahead of a 5-0 run by the Rockets. After Piper Whiteman nailed a three, the lead was thirty points again, 37-7 the score. After Froebe sank two free throws at the 3:03 mark, she came out of the game and Grace Schneider entered the game in her place. Mia Clark took a turn shooting a three and she made it to end the second quarter scoring with Lincoln on top 42-9.

Third Quarter

The Lincoln starters returned to see some action in the third quarter. Tori Geriets sank her first two shots in the second half and Lincoln was on a roll with the lead 46-12. Froebe then hit back-to-back threes in a matter of seventeen seconds. After Becca Heitzig got a shot to bounce in, the Lincoln lead was 54-14. It wouldn’t take long for that lead to climb to 64-14, as Bowman and Whiteman hit their threes and Bowman and Heitzig also tossed in two-point field goals. The scoring was dispersed very well over the course of about three minutes as Lincoln used an 18-0 run to take the game over. Froebe scored the last Lincoln basket of the quarter and then the starters exited for good around the minute mark. The score at the end of the third quarter was a solid 66-18 Lincoln lead.

Fourth Quarter

Makinley Knapp was making the most of her time on the court in the fourth quarter, tossing in eight points. With Knapp and Clark as the two dominant post players coming in off the bench, it is really key that they get some valuable varsity time now because without a doubt these two will be called upon to step up in the postseason. Ceana Adams scored the final basket for Lincoln and the final score was 76-30.

Lincoln improves to 11-0 on the season and 5-0 in the conference.

In the JV game, Lincoln was off to a fast start and won by a final score of 65-33.

After the first quarter, the lead was 23-8.

By halftime, Lincoln led 42-16.

After three quarters, the score was 55-23.

With Mia Clark, Makinley Knapp and Lily Holmes all hitting double-figures for Lincoln the 65-33 victory came pretty easily.

Clark led the team with 17 points. Knapp tossed in 14 points and Holmes scored 13 points.

The JV team is now 9-0 on the season.

Lincoln will play at Champaign Centennial on Monday. The JV will start at 6:00 p.m. The Varsity will start at 7:30 p.m.
