The Houston Chronicle reported that the deal
was for $64 million over five years with a $2 million signing
bonus and no team options.
"Cristian is an outstanding pitcher, so we are really excited
about signing him to a long-term deal," Astros General Manager
Dana Brown said. "As a core piece of our rotation, we felt that
he is the perfect candidate for this type of deal. This is in
line with our vision to try to lock players up to sustain our
success both now and in the future."
Javier was the starting pitcher in the second no-hitter in World
Series history when the Astros defeated the Philadelphia
Phillies 5-0 in Game 4 on Nov. 2. The combined no-hitter joined
Don Larsen's perfect game in 1956 for the New York Yankees.
The 25-year-old Javier struck out nine and walked two in six
innings and was removed after 97 pitches. Bryan Abreu, Rafael
Montero and Ryan Pressly finished up the no-hitter.
Javier also was part of a combined no-hitter in the regular
season against the Yankees on June 25. He struck out 13 and
walked one in seven innings and threw a career-high 115 pitches.
In 2022, Javier struck out 194 batters (against 52 walks) with a
2.54 ERA while going 11-9 for the World Series champions. In the
playoffs, he was 2-0 with an 0.71 ERA, allowing one run and two
hits while striking out 16 in 12 2/3 innings.
Javier joined the Astros organization in 2015 and was promoted
to the majors in 2020. He has excelled since, posting a 3.05 ERA
in compiling a 20-12 record in over 300 innings of work.
His postseason numbers have been even better, with Javier
boasting a 4-1 record and 2.20 ERA over 32 2/3 innings.
