The Las Vegas Raiders released Carr on Tuesday,
before $40.4 million in his contract became guaranteed.
Carr, who visited with the New Orleans Saints before his
release, is said to be evaluating all of his options.
The Jets finished 7-10 last season while starting three
different quarterbacks. Zach Wilson, the No. 2 overall pick in
the 2021 NFL Draft, was 5-4, while veteran Joe Flacco and Mike
White each went 1-3.
Carr, who turns 32 next month, has a jump on other free agent
quarterbacks -- namely Jimmy Garoppolo -- who can't sign with
any team until the start of the new league year on March 15.
The Carolina Panthers reportedly are interested in Carr's
services, too, while the Tampa Bay Buccaneers also are in the
market for a QB1.
In his nine seasons with the Raiders, Carr played for six head
coaches, went 63-79 as a starter and led the team to the
playoffs twice without a win. He didn't play in the 2016 season
postseason game due to a broken leg.
Carr set franchise records of 35,222 yards and 217 touchdowns.
He is a four-time Pro Bowl selection, including this season when
he passed for 3,522 yards, 24 touchdowns and 14 interceptions.
