[February 21, 2023]   The Land of Lincoln CEO program is accepting applications for the 2023-2024 school year from February 1st through February 28th.

“It’s never been easier for students to apply. Everything can be completed right from your phone. Applicants receive text messages with instructions and reminders throughout the process,” said class Facilitator, Lisa Kuhlman.

CEO (“Creating Entrepreneurial Opportunities”) is a year-long, experiential learning-based course. Throughout the program year, students visit local businesses, learn from guest speakers, work with a mentor, and operate a class business. By the end of the year each student will launch a real business of their own.

“CEO is a great opportunity for all kinds of students, even those who may struggle with typical classroom work. It’s very hands-on and real-life. We don’t have a standard textbook. There are no tests and quizzes. But the challenges are real. The experiences that CEO provides cannot be replicated anywhere else,” Kuhlman explained. “Students who aren’t sure what they want to do after high school can benefit from this program. They will learn leadership, teamwork and communication skills they can carry with them into whatever path they choose after graduation.”

Any current sophomore or junior attending a public, private, or home school in the Lincolnland Technical Education Center district is invited to apply for the 2023-2024 school year. CEO meets Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m.- 8:30 a.m. and is offered to juniors and seniors as a Heartland Community College dual credit class.

There are no GPA requirements to apply to CEO. If students can be described as trustworthy, hardworking, and motivated, they are qualified. The application process requires students to write a few short answers about themselves and why they want to take the class, provide two references, and receive approval from their school guidance counselor.

Land of Lincoln CEO is completely funded by local investors. There is no cost to apply, nor any fees or tuition to participate. Those accepted into the program are required to provide their own transportation.
