[February 22, 2023]  The Lady Railers looked well-rested from the long weekend on Tuesday night as they took the court against the Mount Zion Braves in Rochester in the sectional semifinal. One hour and one minute later Lincoln walked off the court 69-31 winners.

Within the first six minutes of the game the Lady Railers had a 16-2 lead. By the end of the first quarter Lincoln was on top 18-6. Becca Heitzig led the way with six points. Jenna Bowman had five points. Kloe Froebe tossed in four points and Taryn Stoltzenburg hit a three to guide the Lady Railers out to the big lead.

The lead got bigger in the second quarter as the Lady Railers poured in 25 points. Froebe reached yet another milestone in the second quarter when she hit a three that put her over 900 points scored this season. She is the first athlete in LCHS basketball history to score 900 points in a season. Lincoln’s Illinois Gatorade Player of the Year nominee is someone very special, folks.

Lincoln had a phenomenal shooting performance in that second quarter and with Froebe leading the way with 15 points, the halftime score was 43-13.

By the time the third quarter ended, the Lady Railers had already drained eight 3s in the game and held a 65-21 lead over Mount Zion. Froebe poured in 10 points here and both Stoltzenburg and Bowman added 3s of their own. With Heitzig and Piper Whiteman also scoring, the offense was looking really good for Lincoln and of course, the defense was on point all night long as well.

A running clock started in the fourth quarter and with the game ending rapidly, the subs finished the scoring from the free throw line. Lily Holmes, Grace Schneider and Makinley Knapp each made free throws and the final score was set at 69-31.

[to top of second column]

Kloe Froebe led all scorers with 29 points.

Becca Heitzig is returning to top form and she had 14 points.

Jenna Bowman cranked out 10 points in the win.

Again a great crowd was on hand to cheer on the ladies to victory. No doubt Railer Nation will take over the Rochester Athletic Center on Thursday night when the Lady Railers play Rochester for the Class 3A Sectional Championship at 7:00 p.m.
