			 To the Editor:The Humane
Society of Logan County (HSLC) was formed as a 501(c)(3) in July
2006 and the shelter celebrated its 10th Anniversary this year. In
these 10 years of operating the shelter, we have identified some
revisions that would better serve the animals while living at the
shelter. Most animals that arrive at the shelter have not had any
vaccines. Animals are required to spend 14 days in isolation
following vaccines. After 14 days they are considered fully
protected and can be moved to general population.

Since inception, the HSLC has housed both dogs and cats in the same
isolation room. Not only are the cats in the same room with barking
dogs, but they can also hear the general population dogs barking.
The added stress results in the cats not eating or drinking,
becoming more withdrawn, hiding under bedding, urinating, and
defecating outside their litter boxes, and sleeping in their litter
			boxes.

We are proposing the construction of a new dog isolation room and a
remodel of the existing isolation room for cats. Both isolation
rooms would require a separate heating, cooling, and air exchange
system essential to aid in the of prevention of the spread of
			disease.

The current shared isolation room has one dog kennel and four cat
kennels. As a result, we are unable to take in as many animals as we
would like to, often having to tum away animals from Logan County
and surrounding counties. In CY2021 and CY2022, through November, we
took in 80 dogs and 161 cats, totaling 241 animals.

The new dog isolation room will have four kennels.

As he did with the original conceptual floor plans for the
construction of the Humane Society of Logan County, Jim Manning
donated his time and expertise to draw the proposed conceptual floor
plans for Phase 1 and Phase 2 of the new addition.

Jeff Short, an Engineer, and HSLC Volunteer, has agreed to serve as
Project Manager, and is in the process of getting the blueprints
made. He is collecting preliminary estimates for the cost of the 400
sq ft construction addition. We do not anticipate the total
			construction budget to exceed $186,764.00

Please let us know if we can provide you with any additional
			information.
