Members of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles
Lincolnite Aerie No. 2708 recently presented a check in the amount
of $9,746 to the Central Illinois Veterans Commission (CIVIC) in
support of the local Homes for Veterans Project.
The funds represented the proceeds of the Eagles’ annual Veteran’s
Benefit held on Veteran’s Day each year. The event is chaired by
Shirley Buchanan, who has overseen the event for the last 13 years.
Tammy Elam also volunteers to help with the event.
The Eagles would like to thank the many local businesses for their
support of this event including donations of items for auctions and
other financial support.
The mission of the Central Illinois Veterans
Commission is to provide Central Illinois veterans with the tools
and support systems to enable them to move forward to obtain
permanent sustainable housing. CIVIC has completed the construction
of three homes that have been gifted to local qualifying veterans in
Lincoln, Illinois.
