Despite leading by as many as 15 points, the Lincoln Land Community
College Loggers dropped a road contest Saturday afternoon, 74-67 to
Spoon River.
Lincoln Land looked like world beaters to start the game scoring on
12 of their first 15 possessions and raced out to a 26-11 lead.
Spoon River was forced to take two timeouts early to try to slow
down the Logger run. Spoon River took over the game for their run as
they responded with a 15-0 run to tie the game at 26 with 9:00 to go
in the first half. Spoon River took their first lead of the
afternoon a few possessions later. The back and forth slowed down
from there and the Loggers settled into the half with a 40-38
advantage.
Spoon River came out of the second half hot and went on a 9-2 run
leading to a 7-point lead. Although, LLCC was able to fight back to
tie it up, the Snappers took advantage of their offensive rebounds
which held the Loggers back from regaining the lead. With 5:00 to
go, the game was tied at 59 when Spoon River earned a three point
advantage and never looked back.

LLCC was never able to get closer
than 3 points after that. Spoon River made enough free throws in
addition to back-to-back defensive steals to pull away from the
Loggers with a final score of 74-67.
Michael Ousley led the Loggers offense with a team high of 20
points. Dane Foster added 16 and Kyle Leonard finished with 13. The
Loggers fall to 5-8 on the season and 1-2 in Region 24 play.
The Loggers play again this Monday afternoon against NJCAA Division
1 opponent Mineral Area Community College at Cass Gym in
Springfield, IL at 3:00 pm.
