PORTA defeats Mount Pulaski 55-40

The Hilltoppers fought an up and down battle on Tuesday night at home, eventually falling by a final score of 55-40 to the PORTA Blue Jays.

Mount Pulaski and PORTA were tied 13-13 at the end of the first quarter. A.J. Bailey poured in six first quarter points for Mount Pulaski.

A lone three-pointer by Gavin Smith in the second quarter put the Hilltoppers in a 26-16 hole at the half.

The Hilltoppers played a terrific third quarter, aided by threes from Clay Aylesworth and Evan Cooper, to pull to within two points. Heading into the final quarter, Mount Pulaski trailed just 33-31.

The Blue Jays have had an outstanding basketball program for years though and they were able to put away the 55-40 win in the end.

Clay Aylesworth and A.J. Bailey each led Mount Pulaski with 10 points.

The Hilltoppers fall to 6-15 on the season.

In the JV contest, the Hilltoppers lost 48-32. Franklin Wade led Mount Pulaski with 12 points.

The JV team falls to 9-3 on the season.

Mount Pulaski will play at Delavan on Friday night. The JV game will tip-off at 6 p.m. The Varsity will start at 7:30 p.m.
