Lady Railers - A special meeting between Stacy Cook and Kloe Froebe

[January 21, 2023]

Just two weeks ago following a Saturday afternoon girls basketball game at Roy S. Anderson Gymnasium, there was a meeting between two very special Lady Railers.

Stacy Cook, far left, sees the "record breaker" Kloe Froebe, for the first time.

It was one of those rare moments where a former Lady Railer legend and a Lady Railer legend-in-the-making got an opportunity to meet for the very first time.

What drew the two together?

A broken record.

Stacy Cook scored 48 points against Springfield Lanphier on February 12, 1980. She made 23 field goals and two free throws.

Cook’s single-game scoring record stood until December 1, 2022.

Kloe Froebe broke Cook’s record against Bloomington High School that first day of December in 2022. Froebe scored 49 points. She made 14 two-point field goals and 5 three-point field goals. She was 6-of-10 from the free throw line.

One really fun fact about Froebe: she did it in three quarters of play.

Lincoln defeated Bloomington that night 76-37 and improved to 7-0.

Seems so long ago now.

Just like the record Stacy Cook held all those years.

Cook was a Lady Railer legend who didn’t even play basketball her freshman year. She was a cheerleader. Her sophomore year she was a reserve on the team. Pretty safe to say she really kicked it into high gear her junior and senior years. She will undoubtedly keep her name on the walls of Roy S. Anderson for years to come as she still holds the record for most field goals in the game with 23 and rebounds in a game with an astonishing 31.

Meanwhile in 2023, basketball fans are in the midst of seeing Froebe break records. She really is a legend-in-the-making and has the stats to back it up.

Mark Spitz once said, “Records are meant to be broken.”

Cook chats with Froebe about her career on the court.

While Stacy Cook, now Stacy Jackson, took the news quite well of her record falling, she did have to kid Froebe and ask, “How many threes did you make?”

Froebe just smiled and answered politely, “Five.”

The two chatted briefly and were kind enough to pose for pictures. It truly was one of those special moments that just had to be captured.

Lisa Cook gives her older sister, Stacy, that look as Vanessa Tibbs Gordon, Erin Smith and Kloe Froebe look on.

In fact, the moment that the “Cook girls” walked into the gym that afternoon was pretty special, as it was obvious the former Lady Railers seated on the bleachers were thrilled to see Stacy and her younger sister, Lisa.

You see, with 2:40 left in the Lady Railers game versus Mahomet-Seymour, the Cooks emerged from the short hallway by the bleachers, having walked through the halls of LCHS first, to reach the end of the gym where the former Lady Railers were gathered. As soon as their teammates caught a glimpse of them sneaking into the gym, those former Lady Railers rose off the bleachers and flashed smiles a mile wide, welcoming their friends back to Roy S. Anderson with open arms.

That was very cool to see.

Now if you wanna see more Lady Railer legends in the bleachers, just stop by Roy S. Anderson today and be sure to pay attention to the current Lady Railers, who are making their own place in history.
