Carolina's Martin Necas scored 55 seconds into overtime after
forcing the extra session with a goal with 11.5 seconds to play in
the third period as the Carolina Hurricanes rallied past the San
Jose Sharks for a 5-4 victory Friday night in Raleigh, N.C.
Carolina had two goals in the last 1:37 of regulation. Sebastian Aho
had two goals, including one with 1:37 left for the Hurricanes, who
have a four-game winning streak. Calvin de Haan scored Carolina's
first goal. Hurricanes goalie Antti Raanta stopped 26 shots.
San Jose's Michael Eyssimont scored a go-ahead goal with 8:45
remaining in what was a wild third period. Eyssimont's second goal
of the season combined with an assist earlier in the third period
had the Sharks on the verge of snapping a three-game losing streak.
Eyssimont also assisted on Mario Ferraro's empty-net goal.
Oskar Lindblom and Nick Bonino also scored for San Jose. James
Reimer played for the fifth time in the last six games and made 31
saves.
Islanders 2, Red Wings 0
Ilya Sorokin stopped all 23 shots he faced and struggling New York
snapped a pair of lengthy droughts by defeating Detroit in Elmont,
N.Y.
Anders Lee scored in the second period and Brock Nelson added an
insurance goal in the third for the Islanders -- their first
third-period goal in 11 games dating back to Jan. 3, when New York
scored three times in the final 20 minutes of a 6-2 win over the
host Vancouver Canucks.
The win ended a six-game losing streak (0-4-2) for the Islanders,
who are 3-8-3 this month. The shutout was Sorokin's fourth of the
season and the 14th in 109 career starts. Kyle Palmieri assisted on

sit in 12th place in the East.

won two in a row. Thomas Chabot, Derick Brassard and Drake Batherson

Forsberg stopped 31 shots.
Joey Anderson and William Nylander scored for the Maple Leafs, who
are 2-1-0 to start their five-game homestand. Ilya Samsonov, making
his fifth straight start, made 28 saves. It was his first loss in
regulation this season at home, where he is now 14-1-1.
Rangers 4, Golden Knights 1
Jaroslav Halak made 33 saves as host New York dumped slumping Vegas.
Halak helped the Rangers head into the All-Star break on a positive
note by making timely saves all game. He won for the sixth time in
seven starts and improved to 6-0-0 all-time against the Golden
Knights.
Chris Kreider
and Vincent Trocheck scored in the final three minutes of the first
period, and Filip Chytil tallied in the third. Jimmy Vesey capped it
with an empty net goal with 84 seconds left. Phil Kessel scored for
Vegas, which is 2-6-1 in its past nine games and 16-16-3 since
racing out to a 13-2-0 start.
