Burger and Luis Robert Jr. homered for the
White Sox, who had lost three straight.
White Sox starter Dylan Cease gave up five runs through the
first three innings before he was done after six, allowing five
runs and a career-high 11 hits with eight strikeouts and no
walks.
St. Louis left-hander Jordan Montgomery blanked the White Sox
the first four innings before surrendering a solo home run to
Burger in the fifth. He later left in the inning with an
undisclosed injury.
Montgomery allowed three hits, struck out five and walked one.
Nolan Arenado homered twice to give him 19 on the season, and
Brendan Donovan and Paul Goldschmidt had three hits each for the
Cardinals, who have lost four of five.
The White Sox scored five runs in the sixth to take a 6-5 lead.
Andrew Vaughn doubled down the first-base line to plate the
first run. After a hit batter loaded the bases, Burger doubled
down the left-field line to drive in two more and make it 5-4.
Remillard hit the next pitch up the middle for a two-run single
and a 6-5 lead.
Arenado yanked his second two-run homer of the game over the
fence in left off Keynan Middleton (2-0) in the seventh to move
St. Louis back ahead 7-6.
Robert tied it 7-7 with a solo homer - his 26th -- in the bottom
half of the inning off Kyle Leahy (0-1), who was making his
major league debut.
Leahy eventually departed with the bases loaded and two outs.
Chris Stratton entered for the third straight game and walked
Remillard on four pitches to force in a run and give the White
Sox an 8-7 lead.
Kendall Graveman pitched the ninth for his seventh save.
Ivan Herrera's RBI double and Dylan Carlson's RBI single in the
second inning gave the Cardinals a 2-0 lead.
Arenado blasted a two-run homer in the third to make it 4-0. St.
Louis tacked on another run in the inning on an infield single
by Herrera for a 5-0 lead.
Burger went deep for his 19th homer with one out in the fifth to
cut the lead to 5-1. After a double by Remillard, Montgomery
called for the trainer and was promptly removed from the game.
