First Presbyterian Church of Lincoln will host
renowned theologian, author and speaker Diana Butler
Bass on July 22 and 23 as the church celebrates the
tenth anniversary of the ordination of Rev. Dr. Adam
Quine. Bass and Quine will offer a public discussion
at 7 p.m. Saturday, July 22, and Bass will preach at
the 10
a.m. worship service on Sunday, July 23. Both events
will be in the church sanctuary at 301 Pekin St. The
church welcomes all who wish to attend these events.

Diana Butler Bass, Ph.D. is an
award-winning author, popular speaker, inspiring
preacher, and one of America’s most trusted
commentators on religion and contemporary
spirituality. She holds a doctorate in religious
studies from Duke University and is the author of
eleven books, including “Freeing Jesus”, “Grounded”,
and “Grateful”. Her bylines include The New York
Times, the Washington Post, CNN.com, Atlantic.com,
USA Today, Huffington Post, Spirituality and Health,
Reader's Digest, Christian Century, and Sojourners.
Her work has received two Wilbur
Awards for best nonfiction book of the year, awards
from Religion News Association for individual

The Reverend Doctor Adam Ryan Quine
is a pastor, theologian, and sought-after speaker
who is much more at home among mystics than in the
academy. He has served for ten years as Teaching
Elder at First Presbyterian Church in Lincoln,
Illinois, where he makes his home with his two
English Cream Golden Retrievers.
He also ministers word and sacrament
at Middletown Presbyterian Church in Middletown,
Illinois. Rev. Quine received a master’s in divinity
from Louisville Presbyterian Seminary, a master of
arts in spirituality from Bellarmine University, and
a doctor of ministry from Eden Theological Seminary.
His tenure at First Presbyterian Church has included
community organizing, participating as an appointed
member of Lincoln’s Diversity and Inclusion
Commission, and the creation and implementation of
the Center for Creativity and Community, the first
fully inclusive and affirming student-centered
collaborative coalition in Logan County.
