Obituary
Donald Dean Huneke, age 86, resident
of Lakeland, Florida passed away June 30th, 2023,
surrounded by family.
Don was born Sept 14th, 1936, in Lincoln, and was
the son of John and Alma Huneke. Don started his
career in Illinois in the insurance business, later
to become the CEO of United Republic Life Insurance
spanning Illinois, Pennsylvania, Ohio and Florida.
In his retirement, he enjoyed his family, traveling,
wood working and wrote a book on positive thinking
“Both Thumbs Up.”
He is survived by his wife of 65 years Rita, his
daughters Christine (Moe), Diane (Doug), Lynn
(Eric), six grandchildren and three great grandsons.
He was a beautiful, caring, humorous, smart man who
always found the positive in every situation. There
could not have been a better husband, dad or grandpa
who was loved and admired by all.
When I was young

When I was young, I talked to Life,
And Life talked back to me.
It whispered softly into my ear,
“Choose joy, not misery.”
“Think happy thoughts, sing happy tunes,
Greet every day with a smile.
Look at all things in a positive way,
And you will go thru life with style.”
That was many years ago,
The day Life talked to me.
I chose to take Life’s kind advice,
Choosing joy, not misery.
My life has been a banquet,
Filled with happiness and cheer.
I thank God for that day so long ago,
The day Life whispered in my ear. |
