During
the next two months, the library will host a range of free
activities for children, teens, and adults to encourage and support
a love of reading. Participants can win prizes or be entered into
prize drawings for reaching their reading goals.
Mark your calendars, our kick off program begins June 8 at 10:00 AM
with a FOAM Cannon on the Carnegie lawn. Donuts and drinks will be
provided by UCB Bank.
The library has planned a wonderful program for kids to make the
library a great place to read, learn, and discover. Seating is
limited for summer clubs, so registration is required for all the
fun free activities this summer. Summer clubs include STREAM for
K-2nd graders, on Mondays at 10:00 AM and 2:00 PM, Explorer Club for
grades 3rd – 5th, on Tuesdays at 10:00 AM and 2:00 PM, TEEN TIME
every other Friday at 2:00 PM, and Find Your Voice Poetry Club for
teens every other Friday at 2:00 PM. We offer story time on
Wednesdays at 10:00 AM and 11:00 AM. Themed programs on Thursday at
10:00AM include: Nitro Joe’s Science Show, Silly Safaris, Jason
Kollum Juggling, Richard Landry-Comedy Magician, Birds of a Feather,
and the music of Dino O’Dell. Be sure to check our calendar on the
website or pick one up at the library.

Once again, non-readers and
readers ages 6 months - 11years old can earn brag tags as they
reach their reading goals. Receive your first brag tag when you
register for a book log and receive one each week with other fun
prizes when you reach your book log goals. Complete all your
weekly goals and earn a Summer Reading Program t-shirt. The 6th
– 12th grades get an opportunity to win weekly prizes, weekly
drawings, and be eligible for a grand prize drawing for a gift
basket for reaching reading goals. Adult summer reading program
starts May 22 and ends August 26, information can be found at
the circulation desk in the Annex.
Summer reading is an important part of preventing
summer slide. Studies indicate students who read recreationally
outperform those who don’t. Students read more when they have the
opportunity to choose materials based on their interests.
Registration continues throughout the summer. To learn more about
the summer reading program at the library please call 217-732-5732,
follow us on Facebook and Instagram, or checkout the library’s
website
