Smith gave the Sky a 98-96 lead with 1:19 left
in overtime on an inside basket. Evans hit a 3-pointer to
stretch the edge to five points, and she added another basket
with 26 seconds left to clinch the win.
Chicago (5-3) had five players sidelined, leaving the squad with
only eight in uniform.
Aliyah Boston led the Fever (1-5) with 25 points and 11
rebounds, and Kristy Wallace had 16 points. Kelsey Mitchell
tossed in 14 points, Lexie Hull had 13 and Erica Wheeler
supplied 12 points and 12 assists.
The Sky emerged from the first quarter with a 26-25 lead behind
Mabrey, who scored 10 points.
Wheeler made a layup just before the halftime buzzer, giving the
Fever a 50-44 lead. Hull led Indiana at the break with 11
points, while Mabrey topped the Sky with 18.
Wheeler and Mitchell scored the first two baskets of the second
half to extend Indiana's lead to 10. Chicago then went on a 13-3
run, including a pair of Copper baskets and an Evans 3-pointer,
to tie the score.
The Fever made four free throws before the quarter ended to take
a five-point advantage into the fourth.
Boston scored in the low post with 2:30 left for an 85-82 Fever
lead.
Copper made 3 of 4 free-throw attempts to tie the score, but
Boston scored on consecutive possessions around an Evans hoop to
give Indiana an 89-87 advantage. Copper tied it again with an
inside basket with 10.1 seconds left.
Wheeler missed on Indiana's next possession, but Boston secured
the rebound and scored on a putback with 2.1 seconds to go.
Smith then made a layup just before the final buzzer to send the
game to overtime.
