Obituary

On June 7th, at the home of her daughter, Dorothy Ann (Higgins) Reinhart, 94, of Lincoln, put down the cross she was carrying to be with all the Higgins and Reinharts who passed before her.

Born on September 12, 1928 in Lincoln, the daughter of William and Louise Higgins, Dorothy experienced living on a farm where she developed her love of animals.

Following high school, Dorothy was employed at U.S. Corrugated in Lincoln and even though most of the factory workers were men, she quickly made new friends and stole the heart of a very special one who would eventually become her husband. The marriage of Dallas and Dorothy Reinhart took place on June 2, 1951 shortly after Dallas was called for active duty with the U.S. Army in Korea. When the first of four children was born, she left the box factory to become head of her growing household.

Her children, family and friends are left with so many precious memories of this extraordinary woman whose personality traits and unique characteristics contributed to her overall charm. She was a beautiful soul and connected with people easily. Her family enjoyed years of luscious homemade pastries and pies fit for a magazine cover every holiday.

Once her children were grown Dorothy became an avid reader, enjoyed crossword puzzles and music, both at home and on her daily walks. In 2011, her daughter began picking up bags of books at The Book Rack in Springfield and noticed while returning the first bag Dorothy had written a brief book review on each of them, over 500 books, until she could read no longer.

Dorothy is survived by her children, daughters Linda (Jim) Snyder and Debbie (Tim) Kelley of Lincoln, Diane Reinhart of Sherman, a son Jim Reinhart (Anne) of Springfield; grandchildren Crystal Tungate, Elle Reinhart (Tom), Ben Reinhart, Katrina Kelley (Nick) and Ryan Kelley (Isaiah). Great grandchildren include Kasey Tungate, Gavin and Phoenix Miller, Alexa and Matthew Kelley.

She is preceded in death by her husband Dallas, parents William and Louise Higgins, twin brothers Edward and Edwin Higgins and sisters Ursula Harder and Mary Buss.

Memorial services for Dorothy will be held at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Lincoln, on Tuesday, June 13th. Visitation will be held at 10:00 a.m. and service at 11:00 a.m. followed by a private family burial at Holy Cross Cemetery.

Dorothy requested that any memorial donations be used to assist local veterans and their families and her children will accommodate those wishes.
