On
Thursday afternoon at approximately 12:30 p.m., severe storms with
high winds, heavy rain and possibly straight-line winds or tornado
activity came screaming into Lincoln and surrounding areas.
Though the storm was short-lived the damage done around the
community will take days to clear away and repair. Electricity was
out in many areas of Lincoln and throughout the county with reports
of heavy damage in the region between Lincoln and Atlanta.
In Lincoln, Connolly Road saw a lot of electric line and pole damage
and it appeared there were straight-line winds that passed from west
to east just north of Sysco.
In the residential area from Woodlawn Road north to Feldman Drive
and Union Street West to Jefferson Street there was a great deal of
tree damage with electricity out throughout the area.
Damage was caused to one home along Feldman Drive saw significant
damage when a large portion of the tree in the back yard fell into
the home, landing on the roof. At that same home it appeared that a
portion of the privacy fence may have also sustained damage.
At another home, a large tree limb, about 12 inches in diameter fell
across the electric lines and got hung up there. The weight of the
tree snapped a portion of the line, and pulled so hard on the home
it was connected to that it separated the electric insulator from
the home and bent the conduit that ran the power into the home.

In the mobile home park just off
Jefferson Street, a huge tree snapped and with the top portion
tumbling down to the ground, with unknown damage to the homes.
Along Fifth Street near Postville Park tree damage was also
noted.
On Interstate 55, at the 118 mile post, the wind was
so severe that it literally blew over a large semi tractor-trailer.
On the good news side, as promised the heavy rain and wind seems to
have done a great deal to reduce the amount of noxious smoke that
has been lingering in the area for the first part of the week.
